To Structure or not.
Ideas swarm like magical bees around my mind and being. Often if I don’t jot them down, they disappear and are lost. Luckily the wonderful notebook, above, arrived in the post yesterday – not sure what it will be filled with…
Sometimes I jot ideas down, begin research and then a different idea attaches itself onto me and I go off on a tangent. Those of you who know me, know my tendency to jump ideas and thoughts a bit like structure. Then I come across the ideas and notes and get all excited again.
When I’m writing a story, be it a play, workshop, or novel, my mind buzzes out ideas. Characters come and say hello and then start conversations with other characters – this often happens when I’m driving or washing up and again, I must stop and write things down (still need to work out how to use a Dictaphone on my phone). Scenes arrive and I need to scribe them, or they are lost in the ether – I have one of those lost now and it is very irksome for the manuscript I’m trying to finish – then use them at a later stage. I have a great structure for a workshop that has evolved and so to the plan for a group to work with - but I had to write it down or it would have been lost.
So, are we plotters or pantsers? Well, I’m a bit of both and I will probably write more on this in an extended musing, but for now I thought we might use this idea for a Prompt:
Take that wonderful notebook of yours and jot down Plot, Point, Pitch. This can be a heading or use the whole of a page with the words having a cloud around them and lots of space - midmap.
